This could be a comment on our educational system. Why study George Washington when more inportant intellectual fare, such as Woodie Guthrie's lyrics, beckon?
Several years ago, public teachers in San Francisco were queried about oceans. One of them, who taught 7th grade, did not know San Francisco was "close" to the Pacific Ocean. She confused the Pacific with the Atlantic.

who cares? The entire nation is illiterate. Look who is president. It might be nice to think this creature was elected by folks with brains but the reality is otherwise.
