To Buy or Not to Buy, That is the Question

Well I apparently have been watching too much HGTV lately. I have been having a hankering for owning a house. Not just having my own space but for the apparent investment opportunity it has over throwing money away on an apartment. Now mind you, not being in debt for tons of money and being able to pack up and leave town on a whim also has its own unwritten value.

Interest rates are LOW, but seem to be going back up again. Should I wait for further bursting of the bubble or will it be too late?

Was looking around online today, and found this 4 bedroom 3 bath with 3762 square feet and 2 car garage on top of a hill in a nice part of town that looks right up my alley, but probably out of my price range.

Carpet would have to go but assume there is wood under there right? Would look great with oriental rugs and fancy paintings all over?

Just one of many views of the large bright open spaces.

Droooooooool ......

Kitchen is not quite up to my tastes, but quite spacious, needs some more color somehow.

Oh well, if anybody wants to donate a huge sum to the Quantum Void housing fund, you probably know how to reach me. I can dream can't I?

It couldn't hurt to find out what your price range is and start making some cursory trips out with a realtor just to see what's out there. You might be pleasantly surprised.

And that deck is amazing. What a peaceful looking spot! (And no, unfortunately, I wouldn't assume there is wood under the carpet).

Ditto what Supermom said. Definitely don't assume wood floors, especially in a "newer" house like that.

If you buy this 3,700-square-foot house (assuming four bedrooms, three full baths), let's celebrate christmas in Tulsa.

The carpet could be covering particle board or plywood and that's not all bad as, if plywood, the plywood might be tongue-and-groove, three-quarter inch and scewed down to form a formidable subfloor FOR a potential hardwood (Brazilian makes going cheaply these days) floor.

Dream on. This one might come to pass.
